Fledgling Fighters

If you are coming out to try fighting for the first, or maybe second time, having the following equipment will allow you to participate, and get into that loaner armor.

Wear comfortable clothing you can move and sweat in, preferably something you don’t mind getting a little torn from armor nibbles. Pants should be long and loose enough for good movement.

Wear a supportive athletic bra appropriate to your cup size. Fighting is not really high impact in the usual sense of the term (we aren’t leaping around for the most part), but there can be quick direction changes, and the more compression, the better. Try your local athletic store, or try titlenine.com for good selection.

Do not wear jewelry, particularly necklaces, bracelets or dangly earrings. Small continuous hoops are usually okay, as are posts, but they may bite into your head and be uncomfortable.

If you think you are going to stay with this at all, you may want to bring your own groin protector. The easiest way to obtain one is looking for women’s hockey or marshal arts groin protectors (commonly called “jill’s”) at your local sports store.

Wear comfortable shoes with good tread, preferably boots. NO SANDALS!

Braid or tie your hair back to keep it off your face and neck.

Gloves are great for stopping those pesky blisters newbies tend to end up with. You can get a decent pair of cotton gloves at Home Depot (or equivalent store) for about $ 5.00.

Having your own pair of standard elbow and knee pads is quite helpful. With these you may attempt to coerce a tired fighter to lend you their armor towards the end of practice.
